GPS fleet tracking, re-architected
Rebuilt the fleet tracking platform on Traccar and TimescaleDB, cutting operating cost by more than 80% with no loss of coverage.
Problem
The group’s existing GPS fleet tracking setup was expensive to run relative to what it delivered, on infrastructure that hadn’t been reviewed since it was first stood up.
What I built
I re-architected the platform around Traccar for device telemetry and TimescaleDB for time-series position data, rightsizing the infrastructure it runs on and rebuilding the deployment from the ground up.
Outcome
Operating cost dropped by more than 80%, with no loss of vehicle coverage or historical data retention. The same platform now underpins Tracknel as a product.
